Binder 1"
3 Notebooks or 3 sections in binder (spelling, formal writing and notes)
Sketch book or Blank pages in binder (for journal writing)
Duo tang
Personal reading (to be in class every day)
Dictionary/thesaurus (optional)
Weekly 5 Vocabulary Quiz:
Words are given at the beginning of each class and tested once we have accumulated five words. Students should be completing their notes with the correct spelling, a definition and using each word in a sentence. Students should review the words at home in order to prepare for the spelling assignment.
Book Reports:
There will be a project assigned each term based on the students' personal reading selection (Total of 3). Students will be given the requirements early in the term. They are expected to find a suitable book, have it approved by me, read it and prepare their project for the due date. Therefore, students have reading and notes to be taken in preparation. This is not something that can be left until the final week. At the end of a term, most teachers will assign projects and tests. The work load can be very heavy at the end of a term, so I suggest that students work regularly on their report. Some class time will be dedicated to completing this project, however some must be done on their own.
Journal Writing:
Students will be given a journal writing prompt at the beginning of most classes. This exercise is designed to expand and strengthen students' writing skills, vocabulary, imagination, and creativity. Journals will be shared periodically throughout the year. Students should have a sketchbook dedicated to journal writing.
